Gradež, shore, evening, continues the Water paintings series, predominantly executed in 2019. Although smaller in scale compared to other works in the series, this piece encapsulates significant dramatic power and monumentality, evoking romantic landscapes reminiscent of The Raft of the Medusa by Théodore Géricault. As such, it transforms the idyllic sunset vista of its initial tourist destination, reshaping the semi-island into an abandoned boat adrift on a deserted sea.
Grado is a town and comune (municipality) in the Regional decentralization entity of Gorizia, situated in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Positioned on an island and adjacent peninsula of the Adriatic Sea between Venice and Trieste, the municipality's territory extends from the mouth of the Isonzo to the Adriatic Sea and the Grado Lagoon, covering an approximate area of 90 square kilometers between Porto Buso and Fossalon.
The author's continuous fascination with the sea reveals her endless love for nature's eternity, as well as the absence of human figures.
