Description

In their work Recycle Group refer to the life of a modern man as it is in the age of the world web and new gadgets. Data transmission speed, constant data refreshing and availability— with every seventh person on earth owning a smartphone – has given birth to the cult of new technologies. Recycle Group often compares the globalization of information networks to the conversion to some new ‘religion’ where the scope of information available in the virtual space is a new presiding deity.

Exploring this in their sculptures and bas-reliefs, the duo reinvents the figures of ‘Neo-Apostles’ who appear as the bearers of a new sacred knowledge manifested in the stream of virtual information. Influenced by traditional Christian iconography blended with contemporary technological motifs the works make us question what the relationship between man and machine can become in the future. The relief itself resembles an ancient artefact, which in reality is made of polyurethane and plastic that used to be post-industrial waste.
