Keep it moving or else!

The classic Imperial stormtrooper is one of the most iconic and terrifying characters in the Star Wars franchise. It also reminds me of the variety of jobs (occupations) often depicted in science fiction for spacefaring civilizations. So, as crewed spaceflight missions increase worldwide, why are we still using the blanket designation “astronauts'' to refer to those who travel beyond Earth’s atmosphere?
