In a Simpson styled picture, Elon Musk (Technoking of Tesla and Imperator of Mars, in his own Twitter bio’s words) and Ursula Von Der Leyen (President of the EU Commission) sit together in the front chairs both wearing shirts with symbols of the main crypto-currencies (DogeCoin among them!) while smiling at a gloomy Turkey’s President Erdogan relegated to a side sofa.
The picture drew inspiration from an infamous, world-known EU-Turkey summit in April 2021 in Instanbul – soon after Turkey’s decision to exit from the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence – where at the presence of international media, Ursula Von Der Leyen was relegated to a side sofa while Erdogan (Turkey’s President) and Michel (President of the EU Council) were sitting in the chairs of honour.
A few days after the summit, while the world seemed to be undergoing a growing crypto-currency hype, the Central Bank of Turkey decided to ban the use of crypto-currencies fearing a flight-to quality from Turkish investors dumping the national currency.
Directed to a global audience from the walls of Rome, Maupal’s artistic call for the respect of the fundamental freedoms ideally rides the DogeCoin space-craft to reach the powerful people of the world!
The art-work was hung very early in the morning on 30 April 2021 on a scaffolding in Piazza della Maddalena, Rome.
