This image shot when I had to spend a few days in Tucumcari on Route 66 due to a breakdown. I found this subject matter in a metal recycling bin behind the shop that was working on my rig. It seemed appropriate to my dilemma. And on a different level, Tucumcari is one of America's lost towns that were built up on tourism, with Route 66 being a major road trip during the 50s and 60s. With the advent of the US Interstate system, Tucumcari and many other small communities along Route 66 have had to shutter a lot of their businesses. This work is a narrative of Americana and the changes in culture as rural communities were bypassed with high-speed superhighways and increases in air travel, making many of these communities "fly-over" towns.
