About the artist: Daniel Rojatz is a photographer and artist living in Austria. He has worked in the field of visual communication and art for more than 20 years. As an artist, he focuses on abstract compositions, alienation, and dense detail, mainly based on old photographs, fragments of posters, and found objects, weathered and shaped by time. His overpainting technique is closer to calligraphy than traditional painting, emphasizing transformative gestures rather than depiction. It is a search for the moment when the documentary becomes a creative object, when it transcends mere description and offers the opportunity to transform what has been seen and found.
"I’m in search of the aura of the real that was lost between the original trace and its countless reiterations. I encounter forms and shapes along the way that seem alive, like ghosts. These moments I keep and share as a tribute to their kindness."

About the artwork: 'Der Theatral' is an overpainting work by Daniel Rojatz (aka rmtrl) based on original negative plates from around 1910, which are part of the private blackprint collection. The two plates belong to a lot of approximately 100 negatives, taken by an Austrian photographer, from which the very first blackprint edition, 'Nu Évanouissant', was produced.
This series by Daniel Rojatz consists of 17 unique works, all printed by blackprint on artisanal "Cartalafranca" paper, handcrafted in the Swiss canton of Ticino by artist François Lafranca. Each physical piece is linked to a unique digital counterpart.
