I was inspired by Dia De los Muertos for this personal piece. I love the bright colors contrasted with the idea of death. Doing my research I learned a lot about the Mexican culture behind Dia de los Muertos. The marigolds flowers in her crown are flowers of the dead which help attract souls to the altar. The sugar skulls became popular after artist Guadalupe Posada drew La Catrina to protest the Mexicans people’s desire to look more European.
