Mingled with Voids is an erratic and instinctive exploration of mystery, randomness, and existence, drawing inspiration from the primal gestures of ancient cave artists. Influenced by David Lewis-Williams’ book The Mind in the Cave, the series reflects on the formidable journeys early humans undertook into the depths of the Earth, confronting the emergence of consciousness and the mysteries of life. Armed only with a trembling torch, these ancestors spent days in near darkness, entering trance-like states to depict enigmatic images on cave walls.
Echoing these ancient rituals, Mingled with Voids emerges from darkness as a collection of mysterious and hypnotic visuals. The images—trembling reflections generated using only a simple flashlight and mirror—are created through photo shoots that resemble performative acts, due to their extended duration and the fleeting nature of the reflections. As the process unfolds, consciousness blurs and the senses dazzle, offering a glimpse into a plane beyond everyday perception—an arcane dimension, released from the structured confines of rationality.
