2.6 million years ago to 11,000 years ago, in the Pleistocene era, weather began to oscillate for long intervals, cycling from warm/wet to cold/dry, while the earth’s elliptical orbit around the sun changed. The cycles lasted about 40,00 years lengthening to 100,00 years starting about 1.25 mya.
