About the work
Belonging to Libby Heaney’s series, 'Ent-', 'Quantum Ent-elechy', is a mesmerising landscape which instigates a conversation around quantum technologies. In 'Ent-', Heaney utilises quantum computing as both medium and subject matter to explore the transformative changes quantum is predicted to have on the future of everyday life. 'Ent-' presents an interpretation of Hieronymus Bosch’s famous triptych 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' (c.1490–1510), which is centred on a 360-degree interactive installation immersing viewers into an otherworldly landscape. Made using quantum computing and Unreal Engine, 'Quantum Ent-elechy' is formed by layering scenes from Heaney’s immersive installation Ent- whilst borrowing from the superposition present in quantum, referencing Heaney’s interest in hybridity.
