"Basically, you can explain my painting in two sentences: I apply color - and react to it. I'm interested in how colors interact with each other or react to each other. I am fascinated by how the hue of a color changes when I combine it with another color or paint over it. Each of my paintings basically consists of three components: depth, structure, and hue. With these three components, I want to create a color space on the canvas. Each color space has its own, very special nature: its own depth and its own feeling that it transports. In the composition of the colors to a color space, it is important to me that the picture as a whole reaches its greatest possible depth, into which the viewer is drawn and which captivates him.

When applying the paint, I pay particular attention to the structure of the paint: it is very important to me to control how transparent or how thick the application process is handled. The brushstroke must be uninhibited. I want to give the impression that the paint I have transferred to the canvas is in motion. In addition, I want to give the viewer the feeling that the pictures are alive, painted only finished in this second, still very fresh. I can not work from templates, photos or sketches to which I fall back. This would trigger in me the feeling of having seen the picture I want to paint too often. It would lose its charm. That's why I work exclusively from memory.

In addition, you can not plan in advance how colors react to each other, this knowledge arises only on the canvas. The size of a painting support is an important factor for the effect of the color: on a small sketch sheet, color has a completely different effect than on the large canvas. However, I have a support when I work from memory: as a motif, I always repeat the same constructed form. This form is for me like a kind of template that I use when I use the components of the picture. For viewers, it may therefore look as if I am constantly painting the same picture. In truth, I always create a different feeling: so the viewer may always see the same form, but always perceive it differently." – Çiğdem Aky
