Narrative:
This edition is packed with new details about the production of the card. One major change is the date when the photo of Wayne was taken. We had previously stated March 30, 1979 as the date but photographer and Gretzky photo collector Perry Nelson helped us determine the correct date. Another date change was when the NHL board of governors voted in favour to expand by four teams.
This edition inspired us to create a new publication about the people who collect Gretzky rookie cards and other memorabilia. “The Great Collectors” publication dives into the passion, dedication, and stories behind those who chase the iconic 1979 rookie card and other cherished Gretzky memorabilia.
This could be our last edition unless someone presents new information that includes original film and plate material. Until then, enjoy the nostalgia.
