From the Saint George's Altar painting is part of a series by the versatile artist, architect, and designer Alenka Kham Picman. Alongside this masterpiece, three other paintings from the series include "Saint George with a Dragon" and "Two Angels," all inspired by sculptures on the left side altar in the nearby Saint George's Early Medieval Church, where Virgin Mary is the central figure between two saints. Golden pale yellows vibrate into complementary tones of blue turquoise, Alenka's favorites.
Alenka Kham Picman is celebrated for her adept execution of free virtuoso lines, particularly in architectural, urban, and seascape landscapes, as well as sacral sculptures. Her use of shiny and luminous color spots, independently positioned, adds a playful dimension to her compositions. Notably, as a student of the iconic Slovenian architect Josef Plecnik, she skillfully weaves together traditional architectural drawings with modern Fine Arts concepts.
