PUZZLING WARHOL | Puzzling Pop Project

The development of the Puzzling project into Puzzling Classics, which reinterprets subjects of ancient pictorial art, inspired Andrea Morucchio to further expand his work. He began to engage with the art movement that, since the late 1950s, examined the mass communication system of the emerging consumer society. In 2019, Morucchio introduced Puzzling Pop, a new series within the project. Instead of using photographic tesserae of St. Mark’s Basilica's floor, he collected thousands of photos of butterfly wings. These were used in digital mosaics to reinterpret iconic works by Pop Art master Andy Warhol, resulting in limited edition prints and NFTs in the form of video animations (Puzzling Warhol NFT).
The vivid colors of Andy Warhol’s iconic images are reimagined through the collage technique with equally saturated and vivid butterfly wing details from around the world.
